Project objectives

The overall objective of the project is to improve conditions for sustainable water tourism development and to increase competitiveness of water tourism in the Programme area.

Activities

  1. Specific objective is to develop programme area as attractive water tourism destination by vitalizing rivers and seacoast suitable for boating by cleaning the riverbeds and riverbanks and installation of boating stops, resting areas and piers.
  2. Improving water tourism related resources (by the rivers, lakes, coast) serving further tourism product development.
  3. developing new and joint water tourism products (sets of packages) for different target groups in Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Russia, Germany and Finland, based on different target country needs.
  4. promoting water tourism as active tourism component in Latvia and Estonia as also in 4 target markets – Lithuania, Russia, Germany, Finland in order to achieve an increase in number of leisure tourists in Program area.

Results

  1. Common strategic platform for water tourism development – evaluation of existing offer and active tourism potentials in relation with water resources (rivers, coasts, lakes etc.), strengthening the cooperation and experience exchange between the water tourism stakeholders – municipalities, tourism entrepreneurs, tourism organizations.
  2. Raised competence and professional knowledge of water tourism operators (experience exchange, training, cooperation events) - thus resulting in more competitive and qualitative tourism services in the Programme area.
  3. Developed at least 15 new water/nature/active tourism related products and included in the regional and cross-border tourism offer.
  4. Developed accessible for tourists water tourism resources (rivers, lakes, sea shore) with improved and user friendly infrastructure - boating stations, resting areas, floating bridges, information signs, mapping.
