As part of the Baltic Sea Region project “BioBoosters”, Vidzeme Planning Region in cooperation with Stora Enso invites SMEs, start-ups, research institutes, sustainable product developers, educational institutions, forestry experts, experts in sustainability and resource utilization and other actors interested in solutions for wood industry to participate in the Hackathon challenge introduction webinar, which will take place on October 17.

During the webinar, Stora Enso will introduce the company and the challenge “Seeking innovative, eco-friendly solutions to avoid log quality worsening in Launkalne mill log yard during summer period”. The goal of the challenge is to combat the dual threats of blue stain in sawn logs and wood-damaging insects without increasing water consumption. Stora Enso is committed to transforming the forestry sector for a more sustainable future.
As a result of the hackathon, the company is looking forward to getting a feasible and efficient product or solution for preservation of log quality during summer season which is compliant with Stora Enso’s sustainability goals and aim of water consumption reduction. Solution of the winning Team will be potentially piloted in Stora Enso Launkalne mill.

Project “BioBoosters” started in January 2023 and is implemented by partners from Finland, Sweden, Germany, Poland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The project will run for three years and has a total budget of €2.8 million. The project is co-funded by the Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme.
